After testing our product at multiple independent laboratories, we are ready to announce our official load rating for the Centipede® Portable Work System:
The maximum recommended amount of weight that can be put on top of a:
- 2′ x 4′ Centipede® Sawhorse is 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms)
- 4′ x 8′ Centipede® Support XL is 3,000 pounds (1,360 kilograms)
Here are some limitations: The load must be distributed evenly across a platform with sufficient strength and the Centipede Sawhorse or Support XL must be on a level surface to support the maximum weight. Do not sit or stand on top of a Centipede Sawhorse or Support XL. Do not apply sideways pressure to a Centipede Sawhorse or Support XL that has a load on top. Do not load on an incline. Do not apply maximum load weight on uneven ground.
Load Test to Failure
We got some photos from one of the laboratories of the setup they were using during the actual load failure crush test. These are pretty cool!
Point of Failure
The unit was loaded at a constant speed of 0.5 in/min until failure occurred. We won’t say what the maximum load was in this particular test, but trust us when we say it is safe to use these products with a load at or below the maximum load rating expressed above.
Units After Testing
And, they were kind enough to send us failures to inspect! You can see the buckling in the legs.
We were nothing less than amazed to see that these failed units could still be opened up and collapsed. Admittedly, they no longer fit inside the carry bag…
